Preventative & Wellness Care

At Wheaton Animal Hospital, we believe wellness care is more than just a checkup. Instead, it’s how we build a lifelong health plan around your pet’s unique needs. Whether your companion has fur, feathers, or scales, we’re here to help them thrive at every age and stage with personalized preventive care and genuine compassion.

From brand-new puppies to senior cats, chatty parrots to curious chinchillas, our wellness exams give us the chance to get to know your pet inside and out, so we can support their health today and protect their tomorrows.

nostics, our wellness care plans are designed to catch issues early and support your pet’s health at every life stage.

What to Expect

A wellness exam is your pet’s yearly (or twice-yearly) health check-in, and one of the most important tools we have for keeping them happy and healthy. During your visit, we’ll examine your pet nose to tail, checking their weight, teeth, heart, lungs, skin, eyes, joints, and more. We’ll also talk through behavior, nutrition, mobility, and any changes you’ve noticed at home.

These appointments are about more than what we see on a physical exam; they’re about what we learn, together. They allow us to detect health changes early, monitor trends over time, and build a personalized care plan based on your pet’s species, age, lifestyle, and needs.

And if your pet gets nervous at the vet? Don’t worry—we’re pros at making visits as calm and stress-free as possible, with plenty of patience, gentle handling, and the occasional treat bribe.

Wellness Services We Provide

Routine Exams 2

Annual Exams

From young explorers to wise seniors, every pet benefits from routine exams. These visits help us spot subtle shifts early and support your pet’s health as they grow and change.

Vaccines & Vaccine Titers

Vaccines protect your pet from contagious diseases, and protect our community too. We tailor each plan based on species, age, lifestyle, and risk factors to avoid over-vaccinating while keeping them covered. We also check vaccine titers when appropriate.

Parasite Prevention

Fleas, ticks, heartworms, and intestinal parasites pose a real threat to your pet’s health, and your own. We’ll recommend safe, effective preventives based on what’s most common in Kensington and your pet’s habits.

Health Certificates

We provide both domestic and international health certificates and will guide you through every step of the process. From timing vaccines to completing paperwork, our team ensures your dog, cat, or exotic pet is cleared for travel, with comfort, safety, and compliance in mind.

Exotic Pet Wellness

Reptiles, birds, and small mammals need care as unique as they are. We offer species-specific wellness exams and husbandry guidance for turtles, iguanas, rabbits, guinea pigs, snakes, parrots, and more.

Microchipping

Collars can slip off, but a microchip is a permanent form of ID that can help bring your lost pet home. It’s a quick, affordable way to protect every pet, whether they venture outside or not.
